3D at Home

Hi everyone! Today I would like to share a thought on 3D movies and 3D Active Glasses developed by Samsung Electronic Company.

While I was reading the TIME magazine towards the end of the page in the "Arts" section, there was an article about the movie Avatar. The article talks about how there is no famous stars in the movie, and "it isn't the screen version of a best-selling novel, it's got a lot of battle scenes, so women certainly wouldn't want to go see it [and] it's also the most tree-hugging movie ever, [and] we're meant to cheer when American soldiers get killed" (Times, p. 50). But how did Avatar rise to the top? In other words, Avatar has none of the selling points, yet it has been no. 1 every week.

This weekend, I finally got to see Avatar. I heard from many, many, many people that its a must-see movie but I never got the chance to. Every time I wanted watch Avatar, the tickets were always sold out in Korea, and when I came back to Purdue, I just didn't had the chance to go to the movie theater. But yesterday, I finally watched Avatar. (I was surprised by the fact that they were still showing Avatar today because it has been quite awhile since they were out)

Lucky me, I got to watch it in 3D and it was such an experience because first of all, the movie quality was amazing. The computer graphic and all was something I never seen before. After the movie, I jokingly said, "it would be awesome if we could watch 3D movies at home!" and then one of my friend said, "you can" I was like ..... "wow"

I never knew we were able to watch 3D movies at home and I was totally excited about it because 3D movies are so fun to watch! There are so many great technologies today, making our lives more fun, simpler, and exciting!

I found out that recently (Jan. 27, 10) Samsung announced that it has become the first company to commence mass production of panels for 3D LED TVs and 3D LCD TVs. They also developed a 3D Active Glasses. You guys should click on this link and check out how 3D Active Glasses work and what they are all about!

They are pretty amazing... and looks like this:

This eye wear glass weights about 30g, and if you charge this glass for at least two hours, then you are able to use it for 30 hours, and that's a long time!

I wonder how our lives will change when we really start using 3D glasses at home.
Are we able imitate like Tom Cruise from the movie Minority Report? :p

My last thought is that nothing is impossible nowadays, seriously!!

Small world!

Recently, I learned about the "six degree of separation", and I thought it was very interesting and I wanted to share with you all :)

Six degree of separation concept got me thinking of how small the world really is...

Six degree of separation is referred to an idea that everyone is at most 6 steps away from any other person on Earth. To test this they performed an experiment called "small-world-method" by Milgram. They asked several thousand people in Nebraska to send letter to a stranger in Boston VIA someone they know, and on average, it took 6 people to get the letter to its destination. When I learned about this concept, I was very surprised to find out that the world is really connected and it only takes at most 6 steps.

How about doing the same thing except this time using social networking tools like face book, and twitter?
Due to technologies and many social networking sites, we are able to keep in touch, get in contact, or make new relationships so much faster and easier. If we were to do the same experiment done by Milgram, we would not have to send letters to someone we know who lives in a different country. In fact, we can just contact them or see if we know someone who lives out side of United States by using the search box on face book. It's that much easier....

A lot of time when I use face book, I am surprised by how many mutual friends I have with the person, it's like "I never knew that person knew my friend"; kind of thing.

I believe in the future the world will or might be even smaller due to emerging technologies and social networking sites.
Isn't that freaky? What a small world.

iPad is.................."our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary..." -Steve Jobs

Nowadays, it seems like the newest Apple's product; iPad, is the hottest new technology. Everyone, or at least around me has been talking about this product on and on.
I have to admit, Apple products are always on top and the products never seems to fail our expectations.

However, when iPad was revealed to the public, half of the people were impressed but the other half were disappointed. Basically, the iPad looks like is a giant version of iPod/Touch and iPhone. It is 0.5 in. thick, weighs 1.5 1b.,and has a 9.7-in. multi-touch screen. Although some people were a bit letdown by Apple's new product, I think it is still a great technology! And this shows how the world is becoming more high technological, and that soon computers and devices from Apple might take over our brain.....isn't that scary? computers and devices controlling our lives?

Anyway, you are able to do many, many, many things with iPad, and I would like to tell you a bit about the applications and tools you can explore.

First, the safari. You are able to see and read everything at a size that's actually readable because of the large multi-touch screen. You can of course check e-mails, open in-box, compose a new e-mail and so on. You can turn the iPad around and the email automatically rotates and fills the screen. There's no keyboard....... but you are able to click and type with the most powerful and natural pointing device, which is your finger :)

With your large screen, you can also watch HD movies and TV shows to podcasts and music videos and so on. You can store photos, and use ipod, itunes, youtube, ibook, and so on. I thought iBooks application was kind of cool because you can buy books from iBookstore. Once you download the books, they look like the real thing, allowing you to virtually turn pages. There are also a lot of accessories and extras for iPad, such as docking station that holds the device at movie-viewing angle, and docking station for attaching separate keyboards (yes, you can attach keyboards if you don't like using your finger) and so on.

Surprisingly, the price was lower than I thought it would be. They are selling the iPad starting at $499, and this is because "we want to put this in the hands of a lot of people" according to Steve Jobs. Another surprising fact is that the battery lasts 10 hours and that's a lot. Wayyyyy better than laptops because they don't usually last that long.

Overall, I think iPad might replace desktops and laptops soon. iPad is affordable, fun, easy to carry it around with, and also useful.

If you guys want to know more in detail on "the good" "the bad" and "the ugly" side of the iPad, click here to check it all out. This information might be useful before you decide to purchase this product when it comes out in store during sometime March!

Sooner or later, in my opinion, people will be holding around iPad to school, cafe, and workplace just like how we carry around our iPhone, Blackberry; smart phone devices today.
I have to admit, although it has been only few weeks they revealed iPad, I am already looking forward and excited about the next iThing.

Another thought: I think its so funny how trends change from one to another so fast. Today, we live in a world that everything tends to develop fast but change faster; everything has to be up-to-date. That is why I am always scared to change cellphones because every time I decide to change my phone, the next minute I know, cooler, newer, and the most up-to-date phone comes out!! Like iPhone, Blackberry curve, and so on. Have you experienced any irritating moment like I did? -- I am sure you all have!

Welcome!

So let me tell you about something I had in mind when I was young ....

When I was in elementary school around year 1997, I use to rent a lot of movies, especially futuristic action movies and whenever they show a future scene, the future date would always be some year around "2008." And whenever I watch those movies, I always wondered what it would be like to live in a place where we are surrounded by flying cars, high technologies, cool roads, buildings, and so on. Today, we are living in year 2010, and I can't believe how fast time has traveled. It's funny because I don't think much has changed if I look back, or maybe I just can't remember what it was like back in the 1997's. But if you look around, even though we don't have cars with wings or robots as our cleaning servants, we are constantly involved with emerging technologies. Technology lets people improve the way they live and makes the world a easier and better place to live, and I believe it is important for us to recognize some of the old and new technologies that are used by millions today.

So basically, my blog is going to be about technologies that are currently used by human beings and also I would like people to be reminded of the importance of social networking. I am able to create this blog, and we are able to do many things and stay connected at once because of the Internet. I believe social network is one of the important concept we should consider.

From this blog, I hope everyone gets to see the cool and fun technologies that are out there for you, and also realize how close and connected we all are through Internet and social networking.

Goodnight! :)
